Born from an initial need of BIOSENSOR – www.biosensor.com.br , a manufacturer of products for the Health area, BIOMÉTRICA soon gained independence and became another division of the Group.

The fact is due to the high competence of the team prepared for the implementation calibration and testing both in hospitals and in routine testing in the industry.

In addition to the services provided by this division, BIOMÉTRICA also sells analyzers and simulators for electro-medical appliances, offering its customers products of renowned brands in the international market.

Maintaining the same quality standard of BIOSENSOR, BIOMÉTRICA has attitude of constant improvement and recycling, providing a service of precise calibration of equipment of various brands, from different companies.

• Why to make the calibration of electro-medical equipment?

The growing pursuit for quality is a determining factor for improving services in Health Care Establishments (EAS) and its patients, thus, it is necessary that medical teams have reliability in diagnostic results obtained using of electro-medical appliances.

The medical diagnosis is made by a clinical examination and a complementary examination. The clinical examination results from patients' complaints, the physician’s experience and other factors such as physical examination. Thus, it can be concluded that the clinic is based on diagnosis hypotheses. On the other hand, the complementary examination is the result of technology and, therefore, it makes use of use electrocardiogram, etc. If the result of the (complementary) examination is inaccurate, the final diagnosis will also be.
In addition to the incorrect diagnosis, there is the issue of electrical safety. Bad maintenance may cause electric shocks in both patients and users, and it may occur, for example, loss of motor control, respiratory paralysis, fatigue, pain, ventricular fibrillation, sustained myocardial contraction, tissue burn and even death.

These facts caused BioSensor to develop a service of hospital metrology based on methods, processes and qualified professionals, in addition to high-technology calibration equipment. For this service, BioMétrica has a mobile unit containing the analyzers and simulators needed, thus the calibrations can be performed in the hospital/industrial environment without the need to remove equipment to be
tested.

• Calibration in hospital environment

In the calibration of electrical appliances for hospitals, clinics and companies with technical assistance/clinical engineering, electrical safety can be verified and the calibration of equipment at issue can be performed. The calibration procedures developed by BioMétrica were based on NBR IEC 60601 general and particular standards, procedures of MPI-System, manuals of the analyzers and equipment to be calibrated.

The relationship with the health care establishments will be developed through a first visit to participate in a brief assessment on the institution, equipment and electrical installations. And, after this evaluation, calibrations will be performed with the mobile unit containing the analyzers and simulators needed, according to the previous schedule.

• Tests at Industries

BIOMÉTRICA is also able to perform, as an outsourced company, routine tests for electrical safety requirements relating to clauses 18, 19 and 20 of IEC 60601-1 standard, as well as to issue reports for the equipment tested.
